Scratch Game Studio

Children build and publish four of their own playable games, starting from the very first block.

A first proper taste of making software rather than using it. Each week the group builds one small game together, then changes it into something of their own. Everyone leaves with four games they can send to family and play on any computer.

What your child will learn

  • Build a complete game from an empty project
  • Use loops and conditions without being taught the words first
  • Fix a program that does not work, on purpose, repeatedly
  • Explain to someone else how their own game works

What we cover

  • Moving a character with the keyboard
  • Making something happen when two things touch
  • Keeping score
  • Drawing your own characters
  • Adding sound
  • Designing a second level
  • Enemies that follow you
  • Lives, and losing them
  • Saving a high score
  • Testing on someone else
  • Fixing what they broke
  • Publishing and sharing the link

Who it is for

  • Children who already play games and have started asking how they are made
  • A first course for a child who has never written code
  • Children who prefer making things to watching lessons

What they need

  • A laptop or desktop computer with a mouse
  • Nothing else — we provide every file and account they need

Your teacher

Mariam Hassan

Creative coding teacher, 7 years with ages 6 to 12

Taught primary-school computing before moving to small-group teaching. Firm believer that a child who has shipped something, however small, learns differently from one who has only followed along.

What families say

“He has shown that dinosaur game to every single person who has come to our house. He built it himself and he knows it.”

Parent of Yousef, 8

Questions parents ask

Reading at roughly a seven-year-old level is enough. Blocks are short and we read the screen out loud together in the younger group.

No — each child needs their own computer and their own place, because the whole course is them building their own project. We do offer a second-child discount.

Every session is recorded and we send a short catch-up task. Miss more than three and we will move your child to the next group at no cost.
